First and foremost thank you for being here.. With the help and lovely nudge of my husband I’ve started a blog.
And I thought it would be fun to do a tour of my cozy craft room.
My husband and I wanted to take a wasted very unfinished space and turn it into our proper laundry room, utilities room, backyard entry and craft space. The space measures 5’x7′ and is now a major player in multi functional, craft room, laundry room, utility room and back yard entrance. But it wasn’t always this functional, first I have to share with you what it looked like when we bought our home. Originally this room was only accessible from the outside. In order to do laundry you had to go outside into the room right next door, and living in the Pacific Northwest with the overcast, rain and colder weather it wasn’t an ideal situation for me. Breaking down a wall to make it accessible from inside our home part was a dream that we hoped to eventually do.
When you tear down walls and expose the studs you learn a lot about a then 57 year old house.
It was insulated with cardboard boxes, the plumbing wasn’t in the best shape and worst of all our breaker panel was not up to code, our electrical wiring was being held together with electrical tape, the cost of the project doubled once we saw what we were working with. We hired an electrician to put a new up to code panel and hired a plumber to move plumbing. Once the hired out work was complete we got to work!! With my father in law’s help we leveled out the floor, hung new sheet rock, painted and laid down proper flooring. It was all starting to look like a functional room!
You can see it starting to take shape!
The shelves are packed with fabric, storage bins, handmade, bought or repurposed and even drawstring bags which help to corral all the various supplies, scrap fabric, and general craft supplies for the girls. The circle shelf is from Target it fit the space perfectly and holds a lot of my Fat Quarters.
One of my favorite features we brain stormed, was a little “pop up” wall table right next to my sewing machine. It pops down when I need access to the dryer or just want a little more space. We also built a built in for my sewing machine so it would be flush to the table, all of which gives me a little more surface area.
I also use every bit of wall space possible. Most of my sewing tools hang on the wall right between the door to the back yard and the window. It was just enough space to hang an IKEA Skadis pegboard making it convenient for me to see and grab just the tool that I need.
My ironing table is a DIY which provides me with more storage, it’s also on wheels so that it can easily be moved when we need to access the washing machine (which is a lot more then you think)
We turned this under utilized space into one of the most used spaces in our home.. it was truly a labor of love and I LOVE every bit of this tiny room. I often wonder what it would be like to have a bigger space but the truth of the matter is you don’t need a lot of space to create.

Thank you so much Inja! You really don’t need a lot of space. Prior to having a dedicated room, Ever night I would take everything out and sew in our kitchen and before going to bed I’d pack everything up so we could use our kitchen.
